How to Buy Bitcoin in Baghdad
Baghdad is where most of Iraq's money moves, and it is where most Iraqi Bitcoin buyers start. If you are in the capital and want to buy BTC with Iraqi Dinar, you have two realistic routes: pay online through a payment gateway, or hand over cash at an authorized exchange house. IQX supports both.
This page covers how each one works from Baghdad, what it costs, and what to watch for.
The short version
- Open an IQX account with your phone number or email.
- Complete Basic verification with your ID details.
- Fund your wallet in IQD — online via Cards, QiCard, ZainCash, FIB or Switch, or in cash at an exchange house.
- Buy BTC at the live market price in Trade → Instant Trading.
Why Baghdad buyers move away from dealers
For years, buying Bitcoin in Baghdad meant finding someone — an acquaintance, a Telegram contact, a shop in a commercial street — who would take your Dinars and send you BTC. That arrangement has three problems that don't go away no matter how well you know the person:
- The price is whatever they say it is. There is no published rate to check it against, and the margin is invisible.
- There is no record. No receipt, no transaction history, nothing to point to if the transfer never lands.
- You go first. In almost every informal deal, one side has to hand over value before the other does. That is a risk you are taking, not a risk you are sharing.
Buying through an exchange removes all three. The rate is the live market rate, every trade is recorded in your account history, and the transfer is settled by the platform rather than by trust.
Paying in Iraqi Dinar from Baghdad
Online, through the payment gateway
Baghdad has the deepest coverage of Iraqi card and wallet products in the country, and IQX accepts the ones people actually use. Through the Wayl gateway you can deposit IQD with:
- Bank cards issued by Iraqi banks
- QiCard
- ZainCash
- FIB
- Switch
Enter your amount in Wallet → Deposit, continue to the gateway, choose your method, and confirm. The balance appears in your IQX wallet once the payment confirms — no trip across the city, no traffic.
In cash, at an exchange house
Baghdad still runs substantially on cash, and IQX works with authorized exchange houses so you can use it:
- In the app, open Wallet → Deposit Cash.
- Pick an exchange house from the map. The app can locate the one closest to you — useful in a city where the difference between two districts can be an hour of traffic.
- Enter the IQD amount you plan to deposit.
- You get a Tracking Code such as
CI123456. Keep it. - Take the cash to that exchange house and show the cashier the code.
- When the merchant confirms the cash, your IQD balance is credited instantly.
Worth knowing before you set out:
- The ticket expires after 24 hours, so create it when you're actually ready to go.
- Nothing is reserved in advance — you're credited only on merchant confirmation.
- Hand over exactly the amount on the ticket.
- You can cancel any time before the merchant confirms.
Buying the BTC
Once your IQD balance is funded:
- Open Trade → Instant Trading.
- Set the payment coin to IQD.
- Choose BTC.
- Enter the amount and confirm.
The trade fills at the real-time market price. Check the rate first on the Bitcoin price page, or work out exactly how much BTC a given number of Dinars buys with the BTC to IQD converter.
Trading costs a single commission — no stacked spreads. Rates per pair and tier are on the fees page.
Turning Bitcoin back into cash in Baghdad
Selling works in the same two directions as buying:
- To your bank account. Sell BTC for IQD in Instant Trading, then request an IQD withdrawal to a bank account in your own name. Requests are processed within a few days, with a limit of 5,000,000 IQD per user in any 24-hour period.
- As physical cash. Request a cash pickup, choose a Baghdad exchange house, and you'll receive a Ticket Code and a one-time PIN. Present both to the cashier and collect the cash. The PIN is shown once — don't share it with anyone except the cashier at the moment of pickup, and note that pickup tickets also expire after 24 hours.
Before you send money anywhere
Baghdad has an active scam problem around crypto, and the patterns are consistent:
- Nobody legitimate asks for your OTP. Not IQX, not "support", not an agent. Anyone asking is taking your account.
- Check the domain every time. Only
iqx.io. Phishing clones reproduce the design perfectly and differ by a character in the URL. - A rate "better than the market" is the bait. There is no reason for a genuine seller to price below the live market.
- Turn on 2FA immediately. See how to enable 2FA on IQX and how to secure your account.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy Bitcoin in Baghdad with cash?
Yes. Create a cash deposit ticket in the IQX app, choose an authorized exchange house from the map, and take the cash there with your Tracking Code. Your IQD balance is credited as soon as the merchant confirms, and you can buy BTC with it immediately. Tickets expire after 24 hours.
Do I need to visit an office in Baghdad to open an account?
No. Registration and verification are done entirely in the app — ID details for Basic verification, plus an ID card upload and a short video for VIP. You only visit an exchange house if you choose to deposit or collect physical cash.
Can I pay with ZainCash or QiCard?
Yes. Both are supported through the payment gateway, along with Iraqi bank cards, FIB and Switch.
What is the Bitcoin price in Iraqi Dinar right now?
The live BTC/IQD rate is on the Bitcoin price page, and the converter shows what a specific Dinar amount buys. Trades on IQX execute at the real-time market price, not at a quoted rate.
Can I withdraw my Bitcoin to my own wallet?
Yes, once you have completed VIP verification — Basic verification covers IQD deposits, withdrawals and buying and selling, but not crypto withdrawals. Upgrade from Profile → Identification.
