How to Buy Bitcoin in Basra

Basra has Iraq's port, its oil industry and a large share of its cross-border payments — but far fewer crypto services than Baghdad or Erbil. IQX closes that gap: you can buy Bitcoin with Iraqi Dinar from Basra on the same terms as anywhere else in the country, without needing a local dealer or a contact in another city.

The short version

  1. Register with an Iraqi phone number or an email address.
  2. Complete Basic verification with your ID details.
  3. Fund your wallet in IQD — online via Cards, QiCard, ZainCash, FIB or Switch, or in cash at an exchange house.
  4. Buy BTC in Trade → Instant Trading at the live market price.

What's different about buying from Basra

Basra's problem has never been demand — it's been access. The local crypto market is thinner than the capital's, which in practice means fewer counterparties, wider margins, and a higher chance that the person offering to sell you BTC is not who they say they are.

An online exchange removes the dependence on local supply entirely. The price you get in Basra is the same price as in Baghdad, because it's the global market price. There is no "Basra rate".

The second difference is what people here use crypto for. Basra's economy runs on oil services, shipping and trade, and a lot of that is priced in dollars. Alongside Bitcoin, many users hold USDT — a token that tracks the US dollar — because it lets them hold dollar value without holding physical dollars, and move it without a correspondent bank. See the buy and sell page for everything supported.

Paying in Iraqi Dinar from Basra

Online, through the payment gateway

Deposit IQD from any Iraqi bank or payment provider through the Wayl gateway:

  • Bank cards from Iraqi banks
  • QiCard
  • ZainCash
  • FIB
  • Switch

Open Wallet → Deposit, enter the amount, continue to the gateway, choose your method and confirm. Your balance updates once the payment confirms. Nothing here depends on being in a particular city.

In cash, at an exchange house

If you'd rather deal in cash, IQX works with authorized exchange houses:

  1. Open Wallet → Deposit Cash in the app.
  2. Select an exchange house from the map — the app will find the nearest one to you.
  3. Enter the IQD amount you intend to deposit.
  4. Save the Tracking Code you're given (for example CI123456).
  5. Take the cash to that exchange house and present the code to the cashier.
  6. The moment the merchant confirms, your IQD balance is credited.

Keep in mind: tickets expire after 24 hours, no funds are reserved until the merchant confirms, the cash has to match the ticket amount, and you can cancel any time before confirmation.

Buying the BTC

  1. Open Trade → Instant Trading.
  2. Set the payment coin to IQD.
  3. Select BTC.
  4. Enter the amount and confirm.

Trades fill at the real-time market price. Check the current rate on the Bitcoin price page, or see exactly what a given Dinar amount buys using the BTC to IQD converter. A single commission applies per trade — published in full on the fees page.

Getting your money back out

  • To a bank account. Sell BTC for IQD, then withdraw to an account in your own name. Processed within a few days, with a limit of 5,000,000 IQD per user in any 24-hour period. Double-check the account details — wrong details cause delays or refunds.
  • As cash. Request a cash pickup, choose a Basra exchange house, and you'll receive a Ticket Code and a one-time PIN. Bring both to the cashier to collect. The PIN is shown once only, and the ticket expires after 24 hours if uncollected.

Where your Bitcoin actually sits

If you hold BTC in your IQX account, it's held under a layered custody model: hot wallets for routine settlement, warm wallets with tighter controls for operational liquidity, and cold offline wallets holding the majority of assets.

If you'd rather hold it yourself, complete VIP verification and withdraw to a Bitcoin address you control. That's the right choice for anything you intend to hold long-term rather than trade. See deposit and withdraw crypto.

Avoiding the common traps

  • Your OTP is not shareable. IQX will never ask for it. Anyone who does is taking your account.
  • Only iqx.io. Phishing sites copy the design exactly and change one character in the address.
  • Enable 2FA before you deposit anything — here's how.
  • A price better than the market is the hook. Nobody sells below market out of generosity.
  • Check the network before withdrawing. Bitcoin goes to a Bitcoin address; sending over the wrong network can lose the funds permanently.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Bitcoin in Basra with cash?

Yes. Create a cash deposit ticket in the app, choose an authorized exchange house from the map, and bring the cash with your Tracking Code. Your IQD balance is credited as soon as the merchant confirms it, and you can buy BTC immediately. Tickets expire after 24 hours.

Is the Bitcoin price different in Basra?

No. IQX executes at the real-time global market price, so the rate is identical in Basra, Baghdad and Erbil. Informal dealers set their own margins — an exchange doesn't.

Do I need to travel to Baghdad to open an account?

No. Registration and both verification levels are completed entirely in the app. The only reason to visit a physical location is if you choose to deposit or collect cash at an exchange house.

Should I buy USDT instead of Bitcoin?

They do different jobs. USDT tracks the US dollar and stays roughly stable, which suits holding value or moving it. Bitcoin's price moves — sometimes sharply — in both directions. Many users hold both. IQX can't advise you on which is right for you.

Can I withdraw Bitcoin to my own wallet?

Yes, once you've completed VIP verification. Basic verification covers IQD deposits, withdrawals and buying and selling, but crypto withdrawals require the VIP level. Upgrade from Profile → Identification.
