How to Buy Bitcoin in Erbil
Erbil has more crypto interest per head than almost anywhere else in Iraq, and fewer straightforward ways to act on it. IQX lets you buy Bitcoin with Iraqi Dinar from Erbil the same way you would from anywhere else in the country — fund a wallet, buy at the live market price — with an interface that works in Kurdish (Sorani), Arabic and English.
The short version
- Register with your phone number or email.
- Complete Basic verification with your ID details.
- Fund your wallet in IQD — online via FIB, bank cards, QiCard, ZainCash or Switch, or in cash at an exchange house.
- Buy BTC in Trade → Instant Trading.
Use it in Kurdish
IQX is published in Kurdish (Sorani), Arabic and English. That covers the whole flow, not just the marketing pages — the trade screen, the wallet, the verification steps and the guides are all translated.
Switch language from the settings menu at any time, or open a /ckb address to land in Kurdish directly — this guide included.
Paying in Iraqi Dinar from Erbil
Online, through the payment gateway
The Wayl gateway covers the payment products used across the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq:
- FIB — widely held in the Region
- Bank cards from Iraqi banks
- QiCard
- ZainCash
- Switch
Open Wallet → Deposit, enter the amount, continue to the gateway, pick your method and confirm. The IQD lands in your IQX balance once the payment confirms.
In cash, at an exchange house
Erbil's money-exchange network is dense and long-established, and cash remains the default for large amounts. IQX works with authorized exchange houses:
- Open Wallet → Deposit Cash in the app.
- Choose an exchange house from the map — the app can find the nearest one to you.
- Enter the IQD amount.
- Save the Tracking Code you receive (for example
CI123456). - Bring the cash to that exchange house and show the cashier your code.
- Once the merchant confirms, your balance is credited instantly.
Practical notes: the ticket expires after 24 hours, nothing is reserved until the merchant confirms, the cash must match the ticket amount, and you can cancel any time beforehand.
Buying the BTC
- Open Trade → Instant Trading.
- Set the payment coin to IQD.
- Select BTC.
- Enter your amount and confirm.
Trades execute at the real-time market price. Check it first on the Bitcoin price page, or see what a specific Dinar amount buys in the BTC to IQD converter. Every spot trade carries a single commission — the full schedule is on the fees page.
Why an exchange rather than a local dealer
Erbil has no shortage of people willing to sell you Bitcoin privately. What they can't offer is the part that matters after the deal:
- A verifiable price. An exchange fills at the live market rate. A dealer fills at their rate, and you have nothing to compare it against.
- A transaction history. Every trade, deposit and withdrawal is recorded in your account — which matters if you ever need to show where your assets came from.
- Settlement that doesn't depend on trust. In a private deal, someone always goes first.
- A way out. You can sell back to IQD and withdraw to a bank account or collect cash. A private buyer may or may not be there when you want to exit.
Selling back to Iraqi Dinar
Sell BTC for IQD in Instant Trading, then take the Dinars out one of two ways:
- Bank transfer. Withdraw IQD to a bank account in your own name. Processed within a few days, with a limit of 5,000,000 IQD per user in any 24-hour period.
- Cash pickup. Request a pickup, choose an Erbil exchange house, and you'll get a Ticket Code and a one-time PIN. Present both to the cashier to collect the cash. The PIN is displayed only once, and the ticket expires after 24 hours if you don't collect.
Holding more than Bitcoin
Plenty of Erbil users hold USDT alongside BTC, because it tracks the US dollar and doesn't move the way Bitcoin does — useful if you're pricing in dollars but banking in Dinars. IQX supports the major coins including ETH, USDT, USDC, BNB, SOL, XRP, TRX and LINK, across the ERC20, BEP20, Solana, XRP and TRC20 networks.
Staying safe
- Never share your OTP. IQX will never ask for it, and neither will anyone legitimate.
- Check the domain. Only
iqx.io. Phishing copies are visually identical. - Enable 2FA on day one — see how to enable 2FA and securing your account.
- Treat an above-market offer as a warning, not an opportunity.
